What You Need to Know before Buying an LED Grow Light

2021-12-13

The five essential pillars of plant growth are temperature, water, nutrition, air, and light. As the saying goes, everything grows by the sun. What if there is bad weather such as haze and rainy days? Plant growth lights can help us to replace the sun's environment for plant growth and development.

However, plants, like people, need exercise, work, and rest. Therefore, when using LED plant lights to supplement light to plants, it is also necessary to control the time. It is generally recommended that the lighting time of plants be controlled between 12-16 hours, so as to leave sufficient time for plants to rest, so as to ensure the work efficiency of plants at work every day.

The quality of light also has a very obvious impact on each period of plant growth. For example, flowering and fruiting plants need sufficient red light during the period of flowering and fruit set. If the red light is not enough, the light intensity can not reach the ideal effect, affecting the flowering and fruit setting rate of plants.

(1) Lettuce: the light sources of red and blue light 6:1 and 7:1 are the most suitable for its growth.

(2) The plant height, stem diameter, and leaf width of leek in the red / Blue 7:1 treatment were significantly higher than those in other treatments.

(3) Cucumber: 7:2 is the best ratio of red and blue light for the growth of cucumber seedlings, and 7:1 is the best ratio during the growth period.

(4) Green vegetables and water spinach: 7:1 is the best ratio of red and blue light for the growth of green vegetables and water spinach leaves.

(5) White radish: the most suitable light quality for growth: the ratio of red and blue light is 8:1.

(6) Lettuce: the ratio of red to blue light is 9:1, which is conducive to the growth of lettuce.

(7) Strawberry and tomato: red and blue light 9:1 is the most favorable for the growth of strawberry and tomato, and the fruit is full and nutritious.

(8) Holly: red and blue lights are configured according to the ratio of 8:1. Holly grows best, is strong, and has very developed roots.

(9) Sprouts: the ratio of red, green, and blue light of 6:2:1 was the most obvious.

(10) Calla: the best growth condition is the ratio of supplementary red and blue light 6:2.

(11) Anthurium scorching sun: comprehensive analysis showed that the treatment of red and blue light 7:3 was better, which was conducive to morphology, root growth, and dry matter accumulation.

(12) Dendrobium candidum: red and blue light 7:3, its proliferation effect is the best; 6:4 was more conducive to photosynthesis and material accumulation.

Taking lettuce as an example, the required planting environment parameter values are:

Illuminance above the plant: 2600-2900lx (pure red and blue spectral illuminance value, nonwhite illuminance value), no natural light, complete artificial lighting system, early irradiation cycle: 6h on, 2h off, cycle 3 times a day; In the later stage, it is opened at 14h and closed at 10h, and it is circulated twice a day;

Ambient temperature: 28-30 ℃ (air conditioning starts to be added in the later stage and remains at 28 ℃)

Relative humidity: 50%-70% (after the air conditioner is turned on, it will drop to about 60%)
